Fairhope Mullet Contest
Enter by November 21, 2024
Around the gulf coast, a “mullet” often refers to cigar-shaped fish seen jumping out of the water most often around dusk and dawn. But at Father and Son’s Barber shop, located at 113 Greeno Rd S Unit A in Fairhope, there is a unique event going on all about the mullet haircut.
If you think mullets are just a blast from the 1980’s, think again. Click here to read an article that reports the mullet business-in-the-front, party-in-the-back style throws back to B.C. as in Homer’s The Iliad.
Let’s Go Fairhope interviewed Chuck and Dana Chavis, owners of Father and Son’s Barber, to get a cut of the facts regarding this special annual contest:
What is Father and Son’s Barber shop known for?
In addition to upscale barbering, we are known for our men’s grooming gear and high-quality genuine leather products. We focus on three things: Beard, Hair, and Body.
Not only do we provide an upscale experience when it comes to a mint haircut, shave, wax and more, but we also have the largest selection of in-house men’s products in Baldwin County. Creams, pomades, powders, oils and tools for every type of hair and body out there. You name it, we can tame it. We also teach you how to keep up your look.
You can come here to have an old-fashioned, top-notch experience with a team that respects your appearance and how you smell just as much as you do.
How does the annual mullet contest work?
We launched this year’s event on September 21, and the last cut opportunity will be 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 21.
Simply let us know you’re coming by booking a cut appointment online through our website and note “Mullet Contest” in the memo so that we can be ready for you with the camera.
All mullets are photographed and posted on Facebook and Instagram. Our followers are asked to vote by liking, sharing and commenting on their favorite.
Are a lot of people rocking the mullet hair style these days?
We specialize in all styles of men’s haircuts, not just mullets, but we have cut quite a few already for the competition. Have a look on our social media pages: Facebook and Instagram. Scroll through the gallery and let us know what you think.
Some of our contestants are waiting to post their final photo as they cultivate their look. They are cutting and growing their mullets, returning several times in order to get the perfect end result.
How can Let’s Go! Fairhope followers participate, even if they aren’t ready for a mullet?
Anyone who is or has a father, son, husband, friend, etc. in their life should stop by for a free cup of coffee, pick up a quality man-gift, and watch us in action.
Go to Facebook and Instagram to view the mullets as they jump in, and vote by sharing and interacting with the posts. We hope the community will encourage and cheer these guys on.
What is the prize for the winner?
The winner will receive a $100 gift basket full of curated, high-quality beard, hair and body products.
