Choices and Challenges of Aging Workshop
Saturday, October 5
9:00 – 10:00 am
We don’t like to think about, much less talk about, the fact of life that each of us one day will die. It is not IF, but WHEN and under what circumstances we will die. While we do not have control over the when, we do have some control over our choices about how we want to experience that time.
In this workshop some of the questions we will explore are:
- What are our options, choices as we age?
- Who do I want to make decisions for me if I am no longer able?
- How do I want to be treated?
What do I want others to know and when? - What legal documents do I need and what other paperwork could I use?
Jim Clifford, retired Pastor and Hospice Chaplain will lead this workshop. Jim has 35 years in pastoral ministry, over 5 years in hospice ministry, and a Certificate in Thanatology (Retired), the study of dying, death, and grief. If you are interested in attending, please contact the church, 251-928-8495.
Loss and Grief Workshop
How do we find/offer comfort?
Mondays, October 7, 14, 21, 28
2:00-4:00 pm
We all know someone who has (and we all have) experienced loss – loss of a pet, a dream, an ability, a relationship, a job, a loved one.
Grief is the response of our total being to each and all losses. Loss and grief are both universal; we all experience and express them in a variety of ways as unique children of God. In this class we will explore loss and grief – definitions, myths,
responses, challenges, needs, and resources.
In addition to the Bible, handouts, and our experiences, we will be using Alan Wolfelt’s book, Understanding Your Grief – Ten Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart, second edition. The book will be provided. Please sign-up via the phone number below, so we will be sure to have enough books for everyone.
This workshop is open to any who are seeking guidance for finding comfort for themselves or for how to offer comfort to others.
If interested in attending, contact the church office: 251-928-8495.
Hope and Help for the Holidays
Monday, November 4
2:00-4:00 pm
Dealing with loss can be stressful and hard work at any time of the year; it can be more stressful during the holidays and other special days.
Hope and Help for the Holidays is a workshop to provide resources to help persons cope with loss and grief during this time. Principles, guidelines, and practical suggestions will be shared, many of which will be in the form of handouts.
If you have experienced a loss or if you know someone who has, you are welcome to attend. Please call the church office, 251-928-8495 to let us know you are coming so we may have enough copies of the resources for everyone.
